2025 marks the third year that the boys districts will not impact team play moving forward in the postseason! Districts is solely is responsible for determining the state singles and doubles tournament fields where the champion and runner-ups of each district advance. The district assignments looked pretty solid all around from what I could see. Enjoy the evening and rest up for what is about to be a busy Wednesday of boys high school tennis! Let the postseason begin.

2025 Postseason HQ Page

Class 1A Tidbits

Host: Boone

Top ranked individual Easton Moon is expected to roll through the singles bracket on his quest for a singles title this year. Moon along with his older brother won the doubles crown last season. It will be critical for other singles players to be in the bottom half of the draw to avoid the lefty until the finals. The host Boone themselves, headlines this site as the only ranked team here, and this is a great chance for the Toreadors to get. back on track after a couple of heartbreaking dual losses the last week or two. Owen Schneider has been on the cusp as a top 10 individual player this year, but has had some illnesses that have kept him out as of recent. Hopefully he is ready to go tomorrow.

Host: Columbus

#3 ranked Dubuque Wahlert will make their way to Waterloo tomorrow with hopes of qualifying multiple entries to the state tournament. It is uncertain what draws their top four will be seen in, and my only main guess would be we see Cal Martineau in the singles field. This district is one of the more competitive ones tomorrow as well. Along with Wahlert, Columbus' Parker Stroh and Marion's Jackson Anderson are here. Stroh has had a solid season being ranked in the top 10 for all of it. Anderson almost pulled the upset against Stroh in their matchup earlier this year. The seeding will be interesting to see how that shakes out between Stroh, Anderson and Martineau.

Host: Decorah

For the first time in recent memory, Decorah and WSR are not in the same district. Maybe the 6-3 Decorah win over WSR had something to do with it, or that they both have been ranked top 10 essentially all year. In what looks to be one of the weaker sites, the host Vikings have a good chance to get multiple bids through, in hopes to get all their entries to the finals.

Host: Knoxville

Top ranked Xavier got a favorable district to potentially match the Xavier girls team in advancing all their entries to state. Don't quote me on this, but I think we will be seeing Charlie Legrand and Grant Golding in singles, while the duos of Schmit/Link and Johnson/Jasper appear in doubles.

Host: Fairfield

The most intriguing site tomorrow in my mind. Fairfield's own #4 ranked Ruimin Luo is the favorite for the singles title after a 5th place finish in state singles in 2024. Luo, however, will be joined by Central DeWitt's Max Froeschle and Davenport Assumption's Jack Dilulio. Dilulio defeated Froeschle in a super tiebreak in their regular season matchup, back when Froeschle was ranked in the top 10. Presuming Luo is the one seed, these two will battle it out for a state berth on the bottom half of the draw. Doubles is as wide open as ever down here in Fairfield.

Host: Spencer

#2 Sergeant Bluff Luton Warriors are looking to keep building off another historic season. They are undefeated, have been ranked top 3 all year, and now ready to see if they can get some players to the individual state tournaments. Tyler Grote is looking for a top 4 finish in singles this year, while teammates Joe Wright/Nathan Myers are looking for the same on the doubles side. Heelan's Easton Lubarski, another top 10 ranked player has a great chance to make singles state as well. It will be the Warrior and Crusader show in NW Iowa.

Host: Pella

Pella and WSR got a nice district for themselves to both push for multi-tournament berths. The Dutch's Nile Rozenboom as well as WSR's Matthew Judka are favorites to battle for the singles crown should they both be in the singles field. Doubles could be wide open after that for everyone here.

Host: Red Oak

Shenandoah has been ranked top 10 for some of the season and probably have the strongest overall team here. St. Albert's Noah Narmi has provided a very nice season this spring and could be the favorite for the singles title. A lot of opportunity here at Red Oak tomorrow.

Class 2A Tidbits

Host: Ames

Waukee Northwest gets all entries through. We will see Jake Nelson and Kellan Croatt in singles, as well as Marteen Beekhuis/Vivek Kothari in doubles.

Host: Iowa City High

My most difficult district tomorrow in 2A resides here in Iowa City. I expect #3 ranked Abhay Anil and #10 ranked Will Feagler of the home team to be the frontrunners in the singles draw. Also joining City is IC Liberty with Jack Saunders, Sam Maddhi and Jens Strand, along with Hempstead's Max Hoden. I think we are going to see the duo of Saunders/Maddhi in doubles, leaving Hoden uncertain in which field he will appear in. Should all four of these guys be in singles, two of them will get the short end of the stick and miss out on state.

Host: Marshalltown

CR Prairie's Schulte brothers will play each other in the singles final. Huge implications in that match on who would be eligible to be seeded at state. The nightmare? A seeded player will see the loser of this match before the semis, and potentially in the first round. With these guys in singles, CR Washington's Luke Burkamper I imagine will be going doubles, and they would be a good bet to get to the finals in that.

Host: Ottumwa

Iowa City West is the big dog down here in Ottumwa. Depending who they send in what will dictate the chances other teams may have. CR Jefferson's Parker Holland is a placewinner from 2024 in his rookie season, he battled through IC West a year ago to make state. He is going to have to do so again after an up and down sophomore season.

Host: Cedar Falls

The singles final will presumably be a matchup of top 10 ranked players in Linn-Mar's Garrett Bauermeister and Cedar Falls' Ben Smalley. The Lions Quintin Spalore/Brock Whitham would be the team to beat in the doubles field if they are there together. Doubles would be the more open opportunity at this site.

Host: Johnston

A site with quite a bit of opportunity for many players. Johnston and Valley are the two stronger teams here at the Dragons courts. I am guessing Valley's Mirksey/Frattani are going doubles with the success they have had as a tandem this year. Johnston's freshman top two could elect to go either way. If singles, they should both reach the final, and if doubles, maybe a matchup with Valley's duo.

Host: North Scott

Basically another edition of the MAC tournament from last week. Give me Pleasant Valley securing multiple berths, with a side of Lucas Persson from North Scott to win singles, and Bettendorf to play spoiler in the process.

Host: Sioux City North

One of the more relaxed sites tomorrow, there is a great chance for many players, after Micah Flaherty. Flaherty is the big favorite in the singles draw after having multiple singles state tournament appearances the last few years. I am looking at Dowling and Sioux City North to secure some bids when the day finishes up.
