2018 Shenandoah Fillies Season Preview - Girls

Conference: Hawkeye Ten Coach: Brian Daoust Mascot: Mustangs/Fillies 2017: 16-1, 3rd place finish at team state For the first time since 1999, the Shenandoah Fillies were the Hawkeye Ten champions a season ago. The 2017 season was nothing short of successful. The Fillies boasted a 16-1 record, a 3rd place finish as a team, and 3 individual state qualifiers which included a doubles pair that finished 4th. Shenandoah lost two key starters from last years team, Sarah Wood and Marilyn Cepeda. Traditionally, the 5 and 6 singles spots have been a strength for the Fillies. The lower half of the lineup could be something to keep an eye on this season. The success at those spots might make or break their state title chances. Schedule Analysis: Hawkeye Ten foes Lewis Central, Red Oak, and Glenwood will be important matches for the Fillies in 2018. Lewis Central is an experienced team with many upperclassman. Red Oak graduated a couple starters but has a some strong sophomores returning. Glenwood was a state quarterfinalist team a season ago and could be the biggest test this spring. The conference title may come down to a date with Glenwood in May. Best Case Scenario: Captures the Hawkeye 10 championship for the 2nd straight year and makes it to the state title match in Iowa City Worst Case Scenario: Defeated by Glenwoord or Lewis Central for the conference title. Advancing to the state tournament and finishing either 3rd or 4th. Thanks for tuning in to the second team preview of 2018! Look for another preview set to drop tomorrow!
